About Moray School Services

What We Do

Moray School Services provides one-to-one Social, Emotional and Behavioural Needs (SEBN) support for young people in primary and secondary schools across Moray. We are a Moray Council approved provider of Adapted Curriculum support, working with schools to help young people who are experiencing significant emotional or behavioural difficulties that are affecting their engagement with school life.

Our work is built on a simple but powerful principle: before a young person can learn, they need to feel safe, understood, and capable. We focus first on building a genuine, trusting relationship, and use that relationship as the foundation for everything else.

Our Approach

Rather than imposing a rigid programme, we meet young people where they are. Sessions take place in a variety of settings — classrooms, school kitchens, harbours, beaches, and workshops — chosen to match the young person's mood and needs on a given day.

A central feature of our approach is the use of practical, hands-on activities as a vehicle for engagement. These activities are carefully chosen to provide genuine curriculum content while creating a relaxed, low-stakes context in which young people can experience success and begin to tolerate challenge. Activities have included:

• Motor engineering — rebuilding RC cars, repairing generators and motorbikes
• Electronics — soldering, building circuits, construction of working cameras and motors
• Science experiments — boiling points, thermal expansion, crystal growth, acid-base indicators
• 3D design and printing, laser cutting
• Virtual reality education in maths and science
• Coding and logic challenges
• Fishing trips, outdoor activities and wellbeing walks
• Dismantling and repair of small appliances and equipment

These activities serve a dual purpose: they provide meaningful academic engagement aligned to the school curriculum, while also creating opportunities for conversation, reflection, and the gradual development of emotional regulation skills.

Progress is communicated to school staff through daily written reports and attendance at child planning meetings, ensuring a joined-up approach to each young person's support.

About Martin Muckle

Moray School Services is run by Martin Muckle, a qualified teacher with over 25 years of experience across a wide range of educational settings. Martin holds a PGCE in Broad Balanced Science and a BSc (Hons) in Applied Environmental Geology, and is registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS No. 189085).

Martin began his career teaching in specialist emotional and behavioural settings before going on to hold Head of Department roles in science at schools in the UK and Kenya. He has taught across the full secondary age and ability range, with particular experience in support for learning, alternative curriculum delivery, and one-to-one work with young people facing significant challenges.

Prior to founding Moray School Services, Martin worked with Moray SEBN Services providing emotional and behavioural support across secondary schools in the region. He has successfully supported young people in achieving National qualifications and Dynamic Youth Awards, and has experience collaborating with teachers, parents, support workers, and outside agencies to determine achievable outcomes for individual young people.
